Well, here are some tips to help you prepare your business for your time away…
Schedule Your Marketing Ahead of Time
Most business owners use Social Media, Blogging, and Newsletters as part of their marketing efforts. If this is true for you, you’ll need to plan, create and schedule your marketing ahead of time. Take into account any upcoming events or launches of programs and make sure to schedule promotions accordingly.
Last minute vacation? If you don’t have time to create marketing materials ahead of time, another idea is to have guest authors contribute to your blog while you’re away. Or, you can republish oldies but goodies. Have a week where you highlight the “best of ____”.
Be creative, it doesn’t have to be hard. But, make sure to schedule your posts ahead of time using a tool such as Buffer. You can also schedule your newsletters to send while you’re away email marketing tool such as MailChimp.
Notify Your Clients
Let your current clients know that you’ll be on vacation a month ahead of time and schedule their appointments accordingly. Also, you’ll need to make arrangements for how your clients can be serviced in case they have an issue while you’re gone.
If you have an assistant, this is good opportunity to direct all communication to them. This way, your assistant can take care of minor issues and notify you if there is an emergency.
If you don’t have an assistant, you need to find someone that you trust that can filter client requests for you. This person will be the point of contact while you are away. They will take note of any issues current clients are having.
If it’s something that is truly an emergency, your point of contact with contact you. If it’s not, your point of contact will fill you in on everything once you return.
Now, what about potential clients?
If you have an assistant, they can take care of scheduling potential clients. However, if you don’t have one, this is something that can be automated using a tool such as SatoriApp.
With a scheduling tool, potential clients can easily sign up for a consultation with you without you having to do anything. Also, you can easily block off the time that you’re away so you won’t have to worry about anyone scheduling an appointment during the time you’re on vacation!
Prepare Your Email
There’s no doubt about it, you’re email inbox is going to be a bit crazy when you return. But, there are ways you can prepare ahead of time to reduce the craziness a bit.
You will want to prepare an away message that will alert people that you are away and when you will return. You’ll also want to have pertinent information in the away message that will address the most common concerns that the sender will have.
Here’s an example away message:
Thank you so much for your email. I am currently away on vacation and will return Wednesday, September 3rd. I will be responding to all emails at that time.
If you are emailing in regards to [program/event/workshop], please visit this link for more details: [insert link here].
Your email is very important to me. If you need immediate assistance, you can contact [insert point of contact name] at: [insert contact information].
